Joe Gallagher is a visual artist born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up drawing original characters on large poster boards. At a young age he wanted to be a cartoonist, and won multiple state competitions with his elaborate pictures of characters. It wasn’t until his junior year of college at Western Washington University when he discovered his true passion for painting. After graduating with a business degree, he decided to completely change his career trajectory and fully focus on making artwork. Further inspired by his deep love for creating, he moved to Brooklyn, New York in 2015 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional artist. It developed a new curiosity for understanding other people and exploring new places for inspiration. Joe was immersed in New York’s culture, where he developed his signature whimsical style and displayed his paintings in local bars, cafes, and galleries. He has become known for pieces that incorporate colorful gradients within backgrounds and images representing different moments in time. Through his work, there is an intersection of street and pop art that is uniquely captivating with symbolism.
